The best part of the picture is that the subject is being excellently focused and stands out to the eye while still merging and enhancing the overall beauty of the picture.
Also noticeable is the amount of colors present, forcing the viewer to clearly distinguish between the surroundings and the subject.
Contrary to what you say, the focus is just about the right amount and only where needed. It is good that you did not feel the need to digitally edit this picture, but if you have, it looks great nonetheless.
I believe that the question of lighting and angles is moot as you have done a perfect job of it.
It's pretty much safe to say that it is one of the better nature photography works out there. Kudos!
