I have known no greater joyAfter so long,
it feels nearly impossible
to find music
beyond the monotonous drone of
ever ringing telephones;
to find peace
beyond the unrelenting discomfort
of business casual shoes;

And yet, somewhere amidst
tense muscles and troubled thoughts,

I find a smile.

In deep, sun-starved corners that are
hidden even from myself, I feel
dust stir;

I have known no greater joy
than laughter.

The inevitable truthThe hardest part of being a writer
   is accepting that some things
         cannot be expressed
                   in words.

Blind EyesAnother morning soon shall come
Blind eyes see beauty pure
cracks shall fill with seamless sun
Desultory words creep under door
To golden shores, lost feet shall run.

There's ArtThere's art within the sullen streets
in folds of tattered shirts,
there's color in the cobwebbed corners
hidden from the earth.

There's music wand'ring empty streets,
an echo lost in stone,
their symphonies left incomplete
in eyes of the unknown.

There's poetry that shan't be wrote
but trapped in hopeless hands;

There's art in every living soul
who never got their chance.

I'm not good with titlesA few years ago, I thought
    I could do anything.

A few years ago, I thought
    I could achieve whatever I desired.

In breath-fogged mirrors, my irises
    have lost their light.

I don't know what happened.

Countless wasted nights leave me
    in defeat;

A girl with dreams of a future
    I ache for every day..

    but I'm no longer
   strong enough.

The passion that burned between all seven layers
   of my skin has turned to ash,

   a

noneMy pen runs empty;
marrow sucked dry
from my bones.

I've
no words
left.

After lots of waiting in the heat with the sun directly in my eyes while sitting on a rock that was burning my butt, this damn bird finally broke free of our staring contest and moved. This is my first wildlife photo that I consider to be relatively 'successful.' I know I have lots of room for improvement, but I still consider this to be a huge milestone. Yay!

I love constructive criticism. People who give me constructive criticism get hugs. And cookies. Sometimes both.

Perfect timing, what a great capture! The two distinct pieces of water really give some depth, not sure how I feel about the pink and blue colour in the water though

This is great. Wildlife can be a challenge because you can't count on the subject cooperating. Also it can be hard to get good pictures in bright sunlight because of the high contrast between the highlights and shadows. You also tend to get stuck with really short exposure times, and narrow appertures, so depth of field and intentional blur effects tend to go out the window. This exposure looks excellent, and I like the red and blue reflected in the water. The heron is off to the side, so you avoided center balancing the photo. Also the diagonal lines add a sense of drama and action to the image. (in general, if you want a dynamic avoid flat lines and clear balance.) I think the heron itself adds to that, since its in a repose position but it looks like it just struck, or is about to strike again. This is cool. (Plus its usually fun to get wildlife in action.)

Thank you very very much! I agree on all counts, wildlife shots can be extremely challenging. But you're right, it's very fun, especially after so much waiting when you finally get that shot, wonderful feeling.
