After lots of waiting in the heat with the sun directly in my eyes while sitting on a rock that was burning my butt, this damn bird finally broke free of our staring contest and moved. This is my first wildlife photo that I consider to be relatively 'successful.' I know I have lots of room for improvement, but I still consider this to be a huge milestone. Yay!

I love constructive criticism. People who give me constructive criticism get hugs. And cookies. Sometimes both.

this is fantastic, today i saw i seagull chasing on if these around my estate, it was like some sort of dogfight, it seemed weird though, the size difference between the gull and the heron, you'd think the heron would be all like 'what you doing? this is my bit of fish!', i tried to take a photo but it was too fast and they were being very evasive, it was awesome to see though :)

That is awesome! It is strange that the heron wouldn't just ignore it, but I guess seagulls tend to be very annoying and very persistant! I once was lucky enough to see a heron while it was fishing. Unfortunately I wasn't positioned well so I didn't get any good photos of it, but it was awesome to see. It skewered a huge catfish with its beak! That made me think twice the next time I tried getting close to one, I never realized they were that powerful!

I am using a Nikon D3000. This picture was taken with an old film lens from the 70s my grandpa gave me, a 70-210mm.
